What is a Cookie? In the United States and Canada, a cookie is a small round flat cake. In most other couuntries whose primary language is English outside North America the word used their for 'cookie' is 'biscuit'. Many places use both terms, while in other areas the two words have completely different meanings. A 'cookie' is a 'bun' in the country of Scotland, while in North America a biscuit is a kind of quick bread often served with breakfast meals.


Cookies are usually baked until crisp or just as long until that they remain soft. Depending on the style of cookie, some cookies are not even cooked. Cookie recipes have a wide variety of styles, using a very disperse range of ingredients that include sugar, spice, chocolate, butter, peanut butter, nuts and even dried fruits. The softness of the cookie often depends on baking time.
